PREVIEW EXHIBITION 2008 - FREE ENTRY

An exhibition of participating artist for Open Studios 2008 will be on show in Lichfield Cathedral from Tuesday 22 July to Friday 15 August. Displays will be in the North and South Transepts. Admission is free.
The ancient and beautiful building of Lichfield Cathedral draws many visitors. The Cathedral houses many treasures including the 8th Century Lichfield Gospels and the Angel, also 8th Century, believed to be part of the cladding of St Chad’s tomb, which can be seen in the Chapter House together with 19th Century stained glass by Kempe.
The Close around the Cathedral still has remnants of the medieval fortifications, so important during the Civil War, and a range of architectural styles, which include the 15th Century Vicar’s Close, Bishop’s Palace (1687), a Deanery dating from 1703 and several 18th Century buildings including Erasmus Darwin House, which is open to the public.
Lichfield Cathedral is open all year round between 8.30am and 5.00pm, and the Open Studios exhibition can be viewed etween these hours (unless there is a service or concert).
Admission to the exhibition is free.
